Summary

X Article to PDF does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no tracking, and the extension loads no remote code. Everything it does happens locally in your browser.

What the extension does

It adds an export icon to posts on x.com. When you click it, the extension reads the X Article or thread you are viewing, turns it into a PDF, Markdown or HTML file in your browser, and saves that file to your Downloads folder.

Permissions and why they are needed

  • debugger — used only to render the article you are exporting into a real PDF (Page.printToPDF) inside a background tab the extension opens itself. It is attached only to that tab, detached as soon as the PDF is generated, and never used to read other tabs or page data. While it runs, Chrome shows a notice that the extension "started debugging this browser".
  • downloads — used only to save the generated files to your Downloads folder and to show a file in your file manager when you ask. The extension does not read other files there.
  • storage and unlimitedStorage — used for temporary export progress (cleared when the browser closes) and for the local archive, which keeps self-contained copies of the posts you exported on your own device. A single copy with inlined images can be several megabytes, which is why the larger storage quota is needed.
  • Site access to x.com, twitter.com and pbs.twimg.com — the extension runs only on these sites, to read the post you are viewing and to fetch its images from X's image server for inlining. It does not run on any other website.

Grok Markdown

Grok Markdown is an optional feature that runs only when you choose it from the export menu. It opens x.com/i/grok in a background tab, in your own logged-in X account, and sends the text of the current thread to X's Grok as a prompt. The Markdown that Grok writes is saved to your Downloads folder. This is the same as pasting the thread into Grok yourself: the conversation appears in your own Grok history and is governed by X's privacy policy. We never receive it.

Data stored on your device

  • Your archive setting: how many archived posts to keep.
  • The local archive: self-contained copies of the posts you exported, which you can search, open or delete at any time.

This data is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device. Removing the extension deletes it.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect your identity, browsing history, credentials, clipboard contents, or the content of the posts you view or export.

Third parties

We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, and we do not use it for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose. The extension includes no third-party SDKs, analytics or advertising.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
